If you are getting stomped in this game, then try these short tips to guide you to victory with the Return of the King's main characters.
Gandalf
Wall of Minas Tirith - Use the ropes to drop down to the lower ledge to avoid wasting time wading through enemies while ladders are rising. Kick over the ladders, then climb back up to keep mopping up any remaining Orcs. When the siege engines arrive, you can use the catapult on one of the towers, or simpler yet, race over and use your ranged attack to destroy them.
Courtyard of Minas Tirith - This fiendishly difficult mission is a long struggle. From the doorway to the tower, a barrel to the left hides a green power-up and a barrel to the right holds a red power-up. Use them judiciously. The war pikes are critical when the Cave Trolls arrive. One pike kills them, but be extra careful with your aim to maximize their effect. Failing that, wail on the Trolls with your ranged attack.
Aragorn
Defending Merry and Pippin - Get on the ledge and fire at the Oliphants (dodging their arrows, as they do a lot of damage). Then head to the end where the Dragon appears and pepper it with arrows while your AI buddies (hopefully) keep the nearby enemies occupied. Then run across the valley floor (don't stop!) and up the other ledge for that Oliphant, and repeat. The Dragon takes a lot of shots, so make sure you're targeting it, not nearby Orcs, and fire away.
Frodo and Sam
In the Sewers - Kill all the Orcs, and as you approach the boss, use your ranged attack to take out his minions. When they're dead, use the special invisibility power to sneak past the boss and "use" the pulley three times to open the gate.
When Fighting Shelob - Use invisibility to sneak behind it, then uncloak and attack furiously at its legs. When it retreats, make quick work of the smaller spiders with a secondary power hit and a follow-up killing blow.
Dueling against the Powerful Orc - You need to use the war pikes to break his shield, then another to stun him. While he's stunned, pull off any of your special moves to do the most damage possible. Repeat 'til he's dead!
And there you have just a few of the many tips that can be used to become victorious over the powerful enemies in this well-written game. Come back for more useful tips for other areas of Lord of the Rings.
